Gardaí have arrested a man this afternoon from the west of Ireland in relation to the attack on Dublin footballer Jonny Cooper last weekend.
The suspect – who was being held in Cloverhill prison in relation to a different crime – has been brought to Mountjoy Garda Station and can be held without charge for up to 24 hours. According to the Irish Independent, the arrest has been made following a study of the CCTV footage, a forensic examination of the scene and following 'valuable assistance' from the public.
Cooper was lucky to escape without permanent damage to his eye, after he was stabbed almost 10 times around the head and shoulder while walking home from a night out on Dorset Street. The attack was featured on RTÉ's CrimeCall last week.
