Spinning is one of those strange fitness revolutions. The stationary bike had been around for a long time before South African cyclist John 'Johnny G' Goldberg got in a bike accident and decided he needed to customise his own indoor bike. But 'spinning', which Johnny G created and trademarked, is as popular as ever.
Amazingly, on Youtube you'll find a video of Johnny G's first spinning video. It's from 1995 and it's 17 minutes long. It's a truly weird internet artefact.
First we see Johnny G on the road, and then touring his spinning classes around to various fitness expos in America. And while the video feels terribly dated, the enthusiasm that fitness people had for spinning at its onset was very real, as you can see.
