1. Eggs
Stop listening to nonsense. Eggs are sound.
Yes they've got a high percentage of fat but that's mostly monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats which are good for your heart. The fact that yolks are packed with dietary cholesterol has given them a bad reputation but research has shown that this does not mean it would actually raise your own cholesterol. If you're still worried about eggs then you can take the yolk out but you really don't need to.
Also don't believe the 'you should only eat one egg per day' myth.
2. White rice
Basmati rice is not the enemy, a lack of exercise is the enemy. While there are plenty of health of benefits to eating brown rice, it doesn't mean you should never eat the white offering.
First off it's great if you're trying to put on weight or if you're eating it with chicken etc. shortly after a workout or as a meal before your workout. It's a fast carb but sometimes that can be helpful and also, if you're eating vegetables that are high in fibre alongside it then it will slow your digestion down.
3. Red meat
Lookit, as the 100+-year-old man said on the Late Late Show a few weeks ago, 'everything in moderation' is the key to a long and healthy life. Red meat can be different to digest but it also has plenty of benefits.
A good source of protein and iron, vitamins B3, B12, B6, zinc and selenium so you can see it's very nutritious. Just make sure to not eat it every day and also that you buy high quality, unprocessed meat. The butcher is the place to go to.
4. Baked beans
Maybe they're not seen as 'bad for you' but the might of the humble tin of beans is often overlooked. Make sure to buy those that have no added sugar and again, that they are part of a healthy overall diet.
Beans are quick to prepare and are full of protein, fibre, calcium, potassium and iron.
5. Frozen vegetables
Again these may not be highlighted as particularly bad but their benefits are not highlighted enough. Research has shown time and time again that they have the same nutritional value of fresh vegetables and are great option now that winter has set in and a head of fresh broccoli that isn't rotting in the middle is hard to come by.
6. Chocolate
Dark chocolate is really good for you, milk chocolate isn't exactly brilliant but feck it, it's grand. Again it's all about moderation. Chocolate can boost your immune system, reduce your blood pressure and can often show the same benefits as green tea.
