It's Winter, it's freezing, it's wet and the last thing most of feel like doing in our spare time is working out.
Finding the motivation to work out in the Winter months can be difficult, and many of us lose all our progress from the year in these final few months.
But fear not, we've found some top tips that will help you power through the Winter period and carry you into the new year feeling fresher than ever.
Embrace The Cold
This obviously sounds a lot easier than it looks but sometimes its best to just zip up your jacket and go for it. If you go outside expecting to get soaked to the skin or freeze your toes off, the reality won't actually be all that bad. You'll also receive the added bonus a nice hot shower followed by that smug post exercise feeling once all is said and done.
Find An Event To Enter
Whether its a mini marathon or a swimming gala, try and find something to enter yourself into this Winter.
Once you're signed up and committed you'll have that motivation to go and actually train for the event in order to save yourself the embarrassment of failure come game day.
Try Something Different
If you've been stuck doing the same workouts all year it can be easy to give them a miss once the weather takes a turn for the worst.
Its good to take up something new and exciting, perhaps a Winter sport, or if you don't like the cold there's plenty of indoor activities that will do just fine.
A new sport, workout or exercise could provide you with the excitement and determination needed to make it through the cold snap.
Make The Most Of What's At Home
We understand it's difficult to motivate yourself to leave the house when it's pissing rain outside but that doesn't mean you can't make up for it in the comfort of your own home.
There's plenty of home workouts which you can do at home which will keep you ticking over until you're ready to leave the house once again.
Swiss Balls, pull up bars and perfect press up handles are all easily available and inexpensive.
Find A Workout Partner
Find someone to suffer through the cold alongside you. You can motivate them when their not feeling it and they can do the same for you.
There is also something comforting knowing that you have someone alongside you suffering the same as you are. They'll keep you in the gym that extra ten minutes longer and the two of you can gloat together on New Years Day when everyone is else is moaning about the extra stone they've gained over Christmas.
