Zlatan Ibrahimovic thinks Manchester United would be foolish to hang onto Paul Pogba if the player wants to leave. The Frenchman has made clear his desire to leave the club this summer, although there does not seem to be any deal imminent.
The Swede, who played alongside Pogba for around 18 months at Old Trafford, told the BBC that United have to sell the player if he no longer wants to be there.
I think if he doesn't want to stay, it makes no sense to keep him.
You let him go and if he wants to be somewhere else, that is where you let him go to - use the situation and bring in somebody who wants to stay.
The dressing is more about the players' respect each other. They're professionals and understand each other's situation. Who worries more is the club and the management.
You don't want a player in your club or in your team that doesn't want to stay, because then you know he will not give 100 or 200 per cent, or he does that and still doesn't want to stay.
It's a tricky situation and the best is what is the best for the club. That is what you have to look at.
Ibrahimovic knows a thing or two about transfers, having changed club eight times as a player himself. He is currently finishing off the tail end of his career in the MLS, where he has been banging in goals for LA Galaxy.
Nothing an incredible 38 goals in 44 games, the striker is the best player in the division despite his advancing years.
As for Pogba, his future remains unclear. His clearly wants out of Manchester, but there doesn't seem to be a club willing to fork out the type of fee United are seeking. With time ticking down in this window, it will all need to be sorted sooner rather than later.
