Zlatan Ibrahimovic was shown a red card during LA Galaxy's game against Montreal Impact on Monday night.

Four minutes before halftime the Swede and Montreal's Michael Petrasso both fell to the turf, appearing to be in pain.

Replays of what caused the scene would lead to embarrassment and punishment for both players.

After Petrasso - a Canadian who had been on the books at QPR until earlier this year - stepped on Ibrahimovic's foot, the 37-year-old had slapped his marker.

Presented with both players on the deck, the referee used the VAR system to determine a decision. It would be a yellow for Petrasso and more for Ibrahimovic.

LA Galaxy went onto win the game 1-0.
