While Sweden prepare for a last-16 tie with Switzerland at this summer's World Cup in Russia, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is busy scoring goals for LA Galaxy. Taking on the San Jose Earthquakes, the Galaxy would have been keen to take three points from a game against the team holding up the table.
Since leaving Manchester for Los Angeles, Ibrahimovic has not had the desired impact upon a Galaxy team lingering in the bottom half of the Western Conference. That being said, the 36-year-old has managed to score 9 goals in 12 appearances thus far.
Scoring his second brace in as many games, the Swede gave LA Galaxy the best imaginable start in San Jose; giving his side the lead only a minute into proceedings last night. A wonderfully struck effort that left the goalkeeper with no chance, it should surely have been the impetus the Galaxy required.
The Earthquakes soon equalised through Chris Wondolowski, before Romain Alessandrini restored the Galaxy's lead. In an action-packed opening to the game, Ibrahimovic proceeded to add Galaxy's third of the afternoon shortly after.
Although the Earthquakes' 'keeper will not look back too fondly on his efforts at saving this, the free-kick was nevertheless well struck by the Swede.
In the end, LA Galaxy would relinquish their 3-1 lead, drawing 3-3 in the end; Wondolowski scoring a decisive penalty with twenty minutes left on the clock.
