Zinedine Zidane has handed his son, Luca, his first professional start today as Real Madrid prepare for their final La Liga game of the season against Villarreal.
Zidane announced Keylor Navas was to be rested for today's game with the Champions League final firmly on his mind, which many had assumed meant Kiko Casilla would start. Casilla had been relegated to second choice having been signed initially as a replacement for Iker Casillas.
However, poor form and huge inconsistency saw him fail to make the number one jersey his own and recent reports have linked the Spaniard with a move away from the club. He also was the focus of a minor controversy after the Bayern Munich semi-final, when he was filmed signing Barcelona’s famous hymn in what many perceived as a 'mocking' gesture.
Catalan Newspaper 'Sport' were particularly critical of the keeper, calling it an 'ugly' move.
For his part, Casilla has been coy about his future: "I have two years on my contract, I have not thought about whether I stay or not."
As for the game, Zidane Jr. had little to do as Real Madrid tore out of the blocks and landed goals thanks to Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo.
