Birmingham City beat Yeovil Town on penalties last night in the League Cup second round following a 3-3 draw after extra time. That however, has become only an afterthought from the game.
Late in the second half of extra time, with Yeovil leading 3-2, their guilty conscience got the better of them and they allowed Birmingham to walk the ball in to the net unopposed.
In the second half of normal time, with the Blues leading 2-1, Yeovil had scored a controversial equaliser when they refused to give back possession to their opponents after Birmingham had kicked the ball out for injury. From the subsequently throw in, Bryan Webster chipped the ball over an unaware Colin Doyle and effectively into an empty net. Yeovil's tactics caused uproar and a scuffle between the two teams.
Yeovil's tactic of finally showing some sporting behaviour also caused consternation after the game, as it was seen as coming too late and only when it suited them. Blues manager Lee Clark was interviewed afterwards and was proud of his team yet not overly pleased with the events that had unfolded at Hush Park.
