In the 22nd minute of Manchester City vs Liverpool on Sunday evening, City midfielder Yaya Toure was booked for a challenge on Emre Can that really should have seen him sent for an early bath.
The Liverpool players were not happy, and upon viewing the replay it was easy to see why.
Apparently challenges that are deemed reckless when the player is out of control is what the ref should look for when brandishing a red card, so that begs the question; how was Yaya not sent off for this?
Step 1: Yaya flies into the first of two challenges in roughly three seconds.
Step 2: Yaya flies into the second challenge, the bad challenge.
Step 3: Yaya leaves the ground, clearly out of control of his limbs.
Step 4: Yaya tries to block Emre Can's clearance, gets nowhere near the ball.
Step 5: Yaya's studs end up in firmly Emre Can's shoulder.
A weird decision, as by showing a yellow it's clear that Michael Oliver saw it, perhaps he felt that there wasn't enough force behind the challenge to warrant a red.
But there's no question that it was reckless from Yaya. Lucky boy.
