A very strange situation. Yannick Bolasie has cut short his season long loan at Aston Villa, without informing his parent club that he was about to do so.

It had been expected that the Congo international would remain at Villa Park for the rest of the season, as he is not currently in the plans of Everton boss Marco Silva. Bolasie made 21 appearances in The Championship this season, but only nine of those were starts. He managed to score two goals and register four assists during that span.

When asked if it was Everton's decision to bring Bolasie back to the club, Marco Silva made it clear that the player himself was the catalyst behind the move:

No. It was Bolasie’s decision to come back. He had this option in the agreement and he took that decision. In the end, he had contact with our board – I know everything what has happened and I know what is in his mind about taking this decision.

I spoke with him when he arrived here at Finch Farm but not before he took the decision, no.

It is not a complication, not at all. He is a good professional, we took that decision at the beginning of the season – we knew he had a bad injury – and he lost some weeks in the pre-season.

Now he has come back we will take a decision again. Let’s see what will happen until the end of the market. We are here to support him and to try to find the best solution for him and the football club.

There are more days to decide what will be our decision before the end of the month.

Bolasie moved to Goodison Park in a £25million deal in the summer of 2016, but the transfer has proved to be a bit of a disaster for both parties. While his time at the club was heavily affected by injuries, he has managed to make only 32 appearances over his two seasons at Everton.

It seems that he has no future at the club, but was clearly unhappy with his lack of consistent playing time at Aston Villa. It is unclear where he will go from here, but another loan move before the end of the window seems likely.
