The Women’s Premier Division (WPD) returned last weekend following the eventful break that was the All-Island Cup.
Athlone smash DLR Waves at home
Athlone won 3-0 against DLR Waves on Saturday with the current WFAI title holders showing no signs of slowing down as the season continues. Indeed, the midlands side has only lost one of their last five matches.
Out of their whopping three points, two goals were scored by Chloe Singleton, an Athlone native who since signing for the club from Galway in January 2023, has made 34 appearances for the side.

A change of fate for Bohs
A series of losses against Athlone, Cork, and Galway saw Bohs turn their fate around when they secured a 2-1 victory against Treaty United last weekend. On their home turf of Dalymount Park, the first goal was scored when Sarah Power capitalised on a corner late in the first half. A goal in the second half was to follow when Savannah Kane won a 1-on-1 battle with the Treaty keeper.
Bohemian FC Women are also gearing up for a game with the Palestinian women’s national football team next month on May 15, their first ever fixture in Europe.

A long awaited reopening
Cork City FC confirmed that their home ground of Turner’s Cross would reopen this week. The stadium has been closed since early April in order to improve the surface of its pitch, ultimately causing the reorganisation of club fixtures. Cork City released the following on the stadium’s reopening, “The club is pleased to have been advised that Turner’s Cross Stadium will reopen on Wednesday, 1st of May, following recent works to the pitch.”
The first game after its reopening will be a match between Cork City and Treaty United women on May 4. This fixture will also mark the first time a WPD match is broadcast live from Turner’s Cross, with the game live on TG4.
The club statement went on to say:
“As a result, this means that our first game back at Turner’s Cross will be our Women’s Premier Division game against Treaty United, which will be the first time a Women’s Premier Division fixture has been broadcast live from Turner’s Cross. We are hoping for a big crowd for the occasion and we are calling on all City fans to get behind Danny Murphy and his team on the day.”
