As the international break loomed, the teams of the Women’s Premier Division (WPD) were looking to end the last round of games before this intermission on a high.
While the weekend was a bright one for undefeated Shelbourne and current table toppers Galway United, the same couldn’t be said for Cork City or Shamrock Rovers, the latter of which suffered a home loss.
Shels' good luck continues
Shels continued their winning trajectory with a home victory at Tolka Park against Cork City on Saturday. The overall score numbered 5-1, with the hosts having battered their visitors. Two of these goals were scored by Shelbourne’s Rebecca Devereux. One of the points she scored for her club came when Noelle Murray, who, herself celebrated her centurion goal for Shels earlier this month, provided a set up for Devreux.
Devereux spoke to Shelbourne FC in a post-match interview regarding the experience of being one of the youngest players on the squad
There is sometimes pressure but like it’s good to embrace as well because the girls are all around you, helping you and making you want to be the better player.”

Cork City have been dealt a hard hand this season considering the near month long closure of their home ground, Turner’s Cross Stadium. Despite its re-opening three weeks ago, Cork City Women have lost two of their last fixtures, including one at home.
Galway United stay on top after Tallaght win
Shamrock Rovers took another loss as current league toppers Galway United defeated their opposition 1-0 at Tallaght Stadium. This game marked Rovers third loss in a row, after having met the same fate a week ago against Cork City and a home loss to Peamount United the week before. More significantly, this was the first senior Galway United team to win in Tallaght in a decade.

A Call-Up for Cork’s Eva Mangan
A maiden call-up to the Irish women’s national football team (WNT) has come the way of Cork City player, Eva Mangan. With the Ireland WNT set to go head to head with Sweden in a challenging Euro qualifier match at the Aviva on Friday, Mangan’s call-up goes to show that manager Eileen Gleeson has been sticking true to her words of pulling from Ireland’s domestic league as well as the likes of the English Women’s Super League (WSL) and Scottish Women’s Premier League (SWPL).
