Watching Egypt and Uruguay today, and the swathes of empty seats on show, I felt a twinge in my heart. Had Ireland managed to make it to Russia, fans would be clambering over walls in order to catch a glimpse of the game.
But despite the lack of Martin O'Neill and co. in Russia there have been some sightings of Irish fans, mainly a Donegal (I'm guessing here) couple, who are honeymooning in the host nation.
Goal interviewed fans following Russia's 5-0 win against Algeria and the Irish pair were soaking in the festivities, though the newly wedded man admitted that his honeymoon has not gone to plan, and has told Martin O'Neill that he's to blame:
We were hoping Ireland would have qualified but obviously they didn't because they're shit.
We met Martin O'Neill on my stag do, no joke. And I actually explained to him, thanks for not making it... you ruined my honeymoon!
“One of your childhood dreams coming true!”

We look forward to more Paddy's turning up in various pockets of Russia over the coming month.
