The first 15 minutes of one of the most highly anticipated league fixtures in world football will not be shown live in the UK. The storied El Clasico grudge match between Real Madrid and Barcelona on October 25 will not be aired on British television due to a broadcasting rule that dates back to the '60s.
The rule states that no live football can be aired between 2:45 pm and 5 pm because it clashes with a Premier League tie that kicks off at 3 pm. The measure is in place to ensure that viewing figures don't drop for English league matches.
The La Liga showdown begins at 5 pm from the Santiago Bernabeau but British fans will have to wait a little longer to see what could potentially be Luis Suarez's debut for Barca.
Fans will have to make do with watching the buildup to Swansea v Leicester at the Liberty Stadium, which is an extremely inadequate substitute for the opening quarter of two European football giants slugging it out. The game has been dubbed the "El Clasico" of England by absolutely no one.
