It's only taken five months, but Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has thrown a bit of a Facebook strop about his father's comments following the Gunners' 2-0 defeat to Southampton back on New Year's Day.
Maciej Szczesny, a Polish international back in his pomp, criticised Arsenal's treatment of his son after the defeat, citing what he believed to be woeful defending by both Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker:
Please look at the Arsenal defence – how these guys are playing is a disaster, but for some reason, nobody pays any attention to it.
Laurent Koscielny should immediately have run [back] to protect Wojciech, and Per Mertesacker should have stood in the goal. Unfortunately they did not do that and gave him zero support, and in that situation Mertesacker showed the agility of a rhinoceros.
We're saying nothing.
Szczesny Sr. also described stories that his son had been dropped for smoking in the St. Mary's dressing rooms as opposed to perceived goalkeeping errors, as "bollocks."
Still battling David Ospina for the no.1 spot ahead of Saturday's FA Cup Final with Aston Villa, the 25 year old has lashed back at his father in an out-of-the-blue Facebook attack. The worst kind.
Really shouldn't be dealing with this one day before the cup final but my father leaves me no choice.
I have not spoken to him in more than 2 years and just like everybody else I have had enough of his idiotic comments about The Football Club and The Manager I owe so much to!
Therefore please do not consider his comments as my shared view. Thank You for your understanding!
So, there's that, then.
The FA Cup final kicks off at 5:30pm this Saturday.
