Now 27 points from safety, Rotherham's 3-2 defeat to Wigan yesterday probably didn't even pile on the misery for the Yorkshire club; they've been doomed to relegation for some time.
Wigan might well end up joining them despite victory at the DW Stadium, with the Latics - who recently appointed Graham Barrow as caretaker manager after sacking Warren Joyce - seven points from safety themselves with just five games left to play.
The misfortunes of both sides is hardly surprising when you consider the following passage of play, uploaded to Twitter by Matt Walker with the caption:
