A World Cup tournament that provided so much entertainment and joy came to an end today as France emerged triumphant against Croatia. However, the BBC panel's decision to award Nacer Chadli goal of the tournament has left many in disagreement.
In the aftermath of France's win, the individual awards were handed out. Kylian Mbappé was awarded Young Player of the Tournament and Luka Modric was Player of the Tournament. Over on the BBC, their goal of the tournament went to Chadli, who scored the late winner for Belguim against Japan in the quarter-final.
Belgium 3-2 Japan. What a goal! What a horrible way to go out of the World Cup! Nacer Chadli sends Belgium through to the quarter-finals with a last-gasp goal #rtesoccer #worldcup #BEL #JPN pic.twitter.com/ggWONgcic5

The decision was not a popular one.
If you voted Chadli's goal as best rather than one of the long rangers you're an unforgivable nerd who has no business following this atrocious sport.

Chadli...goal of the tournament. Eh? Are you pissed lads. 🤦♂️

Chadli's goal was dramatic in the context of the game but was never the goal of the tournament. Has to be Pavard for me. Messi's was good, but is only in the top three because of who scored it. #WorldCup #bbcworldcup

Here are just some of the alternatives.
Pavard (just wait for the replay from behind!). Ladies and gentleman, we've got a classic on our hands.#RTEsoccer

Meanwhile, RTE did not pick a goal of the tournament but did select an ultimate team.
Here's the RTÉ Television panel's team of the tournament. We'll have our on version of that team on the site at about 8pm. #rtesoccer #worldcup pic.twitter.com/785m2LFBcV
