Jurgen Klopp's seventh signing of the summer was confirmed on Friday evening as Dutch international Georginio Wijnaldum joined from Newcastle United for £25m.
Despite Newcastle being relegated, Wijnaldum did his best to keep them afloat with 11 league goals, and it was obvious that he was never going to kick a football in the Championship so Liverpool made their move as they had been planning to do for some time according to Dirk Kuyt.
One thing that surprised supporters is that an attacking midfielder opted for the #5 shirt, which is what he also wore at Newcastle last season, but while speaking to LFC TV, the Dutchman gave his reasons.
At my debut for Feyenoord, nine years ago, I started with number five because all the other numbers were already taken.
So I made my debut with number five, it went well, and I will play with number five again and see how it works you know? It was quite a lucky number for me.
So I feel good with number five, and when I came to Liverpool it was free so I took it.
There you go, superstition wins out once again.
It's not quite William Gallas wearing #10 levels of oddity, but usually only see defenders (and Milan Baros) sporting #5.
A decent first interview from Wijnaldum, who could prove to be an important buy if Jurgen Klopp can get the best out of him as he has already proven that he has the ability from his time at Newcastle.
