Yesterday, Chelsea's Conor Clifford was called up to the Ireland senior squad to face Germany and the Faroe Islands.

So, who is Conor Clifford?

 

  • Conor Clifford is 21 and from Dublin.
  • He plays in central midfield.
  • He played for Cherry Orchard and Crumlin United before joining Chelsea's academy in 2007.
  • He captained Chelsea to win the FA Youth Cup in 2010 and scored the winner as they beat Aston Villa in the final.
  • He has had four loan spells with football league clubs including Plymouth, Notts County, Yeovil and Portsmouth.
  • He made his U-21 international debut in October 2009 and has 12 caps for the U-21's.
  • He was called up the the Ireland senior squad previously in August 2011 for the friendly against Croatia but was an unused sub.
