Premier League clubs voted to change the dates of the summer transfer window last season, meaning that sides will not be able to bring in players beyond the start of the season.
When does the transfer window close?
The Premier League transfer window will close Thursday 9th of August at 5pm. The previous deadline had been August 31st but clubs voted to bring the deadline forward so that players could not be brought into sides after the Premier League gets underway. This comes after managers complained about players leaving teams having already played several games for their original club during a domestic season.
14 clubs voted in favour of the change, five against and there was one abstention. The five votes against came from Manchester City, Manchester United, Crystal Palace, Watford and Swansea.
EFL clubs followed suit when it came to vote on doing the same issue, 40 voted in favour and 29 against.
It is still possible for players to transfer out of Premier League clubs to other leagues, for instance Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois could be sold to Real Madrid after the August 9th deadline, but Chelsea will need to recruit their replacement before then.
