The Liam Whelan Bridge, named after the Cabra-born former Man Utd player who died in the Munich Air Disaster, was vandalised with graffiti yesterday.
Bohemians supporters quickly stepped up to remove the despicable writing on the bridge. Those supporters have been thanked by the Whelan family for their swift action.
Liam's brother Christy, who lives in the area, asked Bohs to post the following message on their website.
The Whelan family would like to thank the Bohemian supporters for all they’ve done with their work on the Liam Whelan Bridge, cleaning and repairing the damage to the plaque and its surrounds.
Their swift response and valuable work is much appreciated by the entire Whelan family.
Christy Whelan can be seen in the picture above (third from the right), along with other family members, at the unveiling of a plaque in Liam's memory on the bridge back in 2006. Also in the picture is Bobby Charlton.
As you can see, the bridge looks more a whole lot different this evening.
