Eating and drinking at sporting events can be an expensive business. You can expect to pay quite a high mark up on everyday prices once you set foot inside sports ground, but some places do take things a bit too far.

The PGA Championship provided a prime example a few months ago, with players being forced to call out event organisers for the prices they were charging. Events in the USA are seem to demand particularly exorbitant prices, although it is far from only an American problem.

In the UK, having a beer or two before and during a game is a longstanding tradition. While the drinks cannot be consumed in your seat, supporters often enjoy the ritual of having a drink before a game or during the interval.

The beer prices at Premier League grounds can vary greatly, although the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United have lowered their prices in recent times to very reasonable levels of around £3 per pint. When it comes to the most expensive beverage, West Ham take the crown.

Images on social media were doing the rounds in recent days showing the price of a drink at their first Premier League game of the season, with a pint costing at least £7.30 and a soft drink going for £4.50.

Understandably, this caused quite an uproar.

As it turns out, these prices are not actually set by the club as they are not the owners of the London Stadium.

The Daily Mail are reporting that West Ham are threatening legal action over against the owners of the ground if they refuse to lower the concession prices for their games.

The club itself do not receive any of the profits from the goods that are sold on matchdays.

The report also states that there is an agreement in place the prices should mirror that of neighbouring Premier League clubs in London, although the price of a pint is currently over £2 more expensive in comparison to that available at the Spurs ground.

This table gives an indication of just how expensive the West Ham prices are in comparison to other teams in the division.

West Ham fans certainly have a right to feel aggrieved.

You'd imagine that a change to those prices will be arriving shortly.
