The Sun and the Mirror are carrying stories today which report that West Brom England U21 player Saido Berahino received head injuries after a dressing room incident following the Baggies' 3-3 draw with Cardiff City on Saturday.
Berahino gave the ball away in the lead-up to Cardiff's 95th-minute equaliser just after West Brom went 3-2 up, and it is thought that the incident occurred as a result. The 20-year-old, who has scored six goals in five matches for the England U-21s, later tweeted: “apologies for my mistake — cost the team the 3point” (sic).
It is reported that club CEO Mark Jenkins was summoned to admonish Pepe Mel's squad after the incident. It remains unclear who the players involved were, or the full extent of the youngster's reported injuries.
Before taking the reins at the Hawthorns, Mel was most recently at Real Betis, who are rooted to the foot of La Liga. He has won just one of his 10 games in charge of WBA.
