Now that Sir Alex Ferguson is no longer in the Premier League, Jose Mourinho is looking for a new manager to challenge him in press conferences. Fresh from his spat with Mr and Mrs Benitez during the week, Mourinho has now found a manager willing to pick up the bait left for him closer to home.
Cross-London rivals Arsenal will be Chelsea's opposition in Sunday's Community Shield, and Wenger took to his pre-match press conference to accuse the media of being in love with the Portuguese manager.
I'll leave your love story with him to continue without interfering, I wouldn't like to interfere in that.
There was more than an air of light-heartedness in Wenger's comments, as he joked with the media. That didn't stop Mourinho firing some shots at him claiming that Tony Pulis is a more worthy rival to him than Wenger, given Arsenal's poor record against Mourinho's teams:
I think I lost twice against Tony Pulis. I lost against Crystal Palace and against West Brom. One game each.
Mourinho went on to taunt Wenger's record against him, and what he'd do if he were in that situation.
I would to try to answer but not because of a mental block but because I would want to try to find solutions to help my team to do it.
It's added an extra layer of intrigue ahead of the season opener, which you can see live with Setanta Sports on Sunday.
