It's now official. John Terry is stickling around at Chelsea for one more season. It was the best option for the club, it was the best option for Terry and the only real question is why it took so long to reach this point. But here it is, sanity prevails and a new deal has been signed.

An entirely unnecessary contract saga has come to an end and Antonio Conte can arrive at Stamford Bridge knowing that some remnants of Chelsea storied history remains to build a future upon. Yes, that storied history jibe was cheap but the fact remains that without Terry involved, Conte would be taking over a squad that has little real connection with their surroundings. As such, it's the logical decision to keep Terry around for one more season and the Chelsea captain is understandably pleased with today's developments.
I am delighted to sign a new contract with the club. Everyone knows I'm Chelsea through and through. I am looking forward to next season under the new manager and hopefully we can make it a successful one.
Also, a special mention to the fans for their continued support. You’re the best in the world.
That's all well and good and it must be said that Terry is an easy target for ridicule so there'll be no full kit jokes here but we do need to talk about the emotional speech he gave to the Stamford Bridge faithful at the weekend.
As odious a character as he may be for many, there's no denying that as a player, Terry deserves the emotional send off from the Chelsea faithful and he received it at the weekend. But all that is ignoring the fact that he had a confirmed contract offer on the table at this point which he quite clearly knew he was going to sign.
And yet...

All right JT, calm down. Keeps those crocodile tears in check until you really need them.
