Wayne Rooney is staying at Manchester United.
After reports emerged last night that his agent Paul Stretford was in China to see if an agreement could be reached with a Super League club, it looked for certain that Man Utd's record goalscorer would be leaving the club, but in a statement to Press Association he moved to clear up the story.
Rooney has confirmed that other clubs have been looking to sign him, but maintains that he wishes to stay at Old Trafford.
Despite the interest which has been shown from other clubs, for which I'm grateful, I want to end recent speculation and say that I am staying at Manchester United.
I hope I will play a full part in helping the team in its fight for success on four fronts.
It's an exciting time at the club and I want to remain a part of it.
Well that de-escalated quickly. The idea of Rooney in China just never seemed right.
Roy Keane revealed on ITV last night that he thought it was ridiculous for someone like Rooney to consider playing in the Chinese Super League, but many still expected him to leave the club in the summer.
Jose Mourinho has phased him out of consideration for the starting XI in recent times, so clearly he must have come to terms with his reduced role.
All we know for sure is that Rooney is determined to continue playing for Manchester United.
