Wayne Rooney did the typical footballer's thing of refusing to react to Paul Scholes questioning whether he was past his prime before going on to react to Paul Scholes questioning whether he was past his prime.
Speaking to the BBC, Rooney said 'He's been a team-mate but he's been away from the first team for a long time.' "I'm not interested. He's got his opinions so let's leave it at that.'
A few weeks ago Jack Wilshere revealed that he called Paul Scholes to discuss how he could improve his game after the former United midfielder gave him a similar dressing down to Rooney live on Sky Sports. It seems Wayne didn't take the harsh words quite as well;
I've seen a lot of you saying he's coached me and been around the team, but he hasn't. I'm not really going to react.
I'm not really interested in what anyone else has got to say. I'm interested in what Roy Hodgson and the coaching staff here and the people around me say. People have their opinions but I don't agree with them.
Meanwhile the view in the English media today seems to be that Rooney is actually quite good but not good enough to play through the middle. I suppose that's improvement on the view a few days ago that he was terrible. Is it just me or are they all changing their opinion on Rooney on basis of what they had for breakfast or something.
