As an 18-year old joining Manchester United, you would be forgiven for thinking Wayne Rooney may have been a bit sheepish around multiple title-winning, Champions League-winning players.
With the likes of Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville amongst those who had already served United with such distinction, perhaps the greatest source of fear for a young wonder-kid coming in was still the club captain, Roy Keane.
Not so for Wayne Rooney it seems.
Appearing tonight on Monday Night Football, Rooney recalled an away trip to Newcastle United with his new teammates.
Sat around the evening before the game, Keane, needless to say, had control of what was being viewed.
While Rooney suggested it was his first with the club, the trip to St. James' Park came in November of that year, a day after Ireland hosted South Africa in the Autumn Internationals.
It was this game of rugby that seemed to be the source of Keane's subsequent irritation with the new, young, exciting addition to the United squad.
With Keane interested in seeing how the Irish side dealt with the Springboks, Rooney took the opportunity while Keane had gone to get his food to change the channel, and hide the remote.
Leaving Keane and the gathered teammates to watch The X Factor instead, Rooney's new club captain was far from impressed. In the long run, Rooney does believe that his ability to act in such a way showed more character than disrespect, and Keane admired him for it.
That being said, you can only imagine Keane's disgust if he was forced to sit through Steve Brookstein for too long, especially as Ireland recorded a 17-12 win that night; with Keane's fellow Corkman Ronan O'Gara securing all of Ireland's points on the night.
