A week out the door after 13 years at Old Trafford, Wayne Rooney returned his thoughts to Man Utd this weekend.

The 31-year-old was asked if he had any advice for Romelu Lukaku, the man who joins Man Utd from Everton as he goes in the opposite direction, back to his old club.

Quoted by The Mirror, Rooney called playing for Man Utd a real 'test of character' and a challenge which the Belgian must be willing to meet.

Rooney also added that there are standards expected of players at Man Utd, standards which have slipped as the old leaders exited the dressing room and new players entered. It was in saying so that Rooney had a little pop at some of his former teammates.

There are standards that you have to keep when you are at Manchester United. That came from Sir Alex when I went to United and it was passed down through the likes of Giggsy, Gary Neville and Scholesy.

Over the last few years, it was down to me and Michael Carrick to keep the new players maintaining those standards.

That has been more difficult over the last few years, with some of the players who joined the club. There are traditions at United that have to be maintained.

It has become harder, but that's not my problem anymore. I'm just ecstatic to be back at Everton.
