Manchester United need to play their cards right over the future of Wayne Rooney or they could stand losing the player for nothing. Rooney, who has 12 months left on his current contract, has been a transfer target for rivals Chelsea, with Jose Mourinho making his intentions clear on the 28-year-old.
It seems United's resolve could be severely tested if Chelsea make a likely move, and the thought of finishing outside the top four will only increase speculation of his departure. Even if they manage to reject any future offers on the forward, Moyes must make sure he pens a new deal or he will be eligible to leave on a free transfer in 2015.
Arsene Wenger was faced with the same situation two years ago with Robin Van Persie and we all know how that ended.
