Wayne Rooney continued his Indian summer in the MLS last night, popping up to score an early winner in DC United's clash with Orlando City.
The 33-year-old caught Brian Rowe off his line in only the 10th minute of the game before taking full advantage and lobbing the Orlando goalkeeper from 70 yards.

It wasn't the first time Rooney's heroics in the MLS have grabbed world headlines. And it wasn't the first time it happened against the Orlando outfit. In 2018, the English man executed a sensational tackle in a similar area of the pitch before setting up teammate Luciano Acosta for a late winner.
Speaking to the MLS website after the game, the former English striker claimed last night's strike was brewing for a few minutes before he eventually took the stadium by surprise.
I spotted the ‘keeper maybe a couple minutes before we scored and I’d seen that he was quite high. I knew if the ball fell to me near the halfway line, then the opportunity would be there for me to shoot it.
He was probably a bit further out than normally because they were in possession of the ball, and it was through them losing it that it fell straight into my path. I knew immediately I was going to shoot it and, thankfully, I got it right.
Last night's 1-0 win leaves the Washington DC side in third place in the Eastern Conference, two points off top spot currently being held by Philadelphia Union.
