Wayne Rooney notched his first MLS goal last night against Colorado Rapids in a 2-1 victory. The forward, who just recently signed for DC United, opened the scoring on 33 minutes, latching onto a through ball before slotting through the legs of ex-Manchester United team mate Tim Howard:

Rooney was also in the wars during his team's 2-1 win, with the 32-year-old left bloodied and bruised following a collision while the forward was defending a corner for his side:
The ex-United man reportedly needed five stitches above his right eye and also broke his nose in the incident, but after the game DC United coach Ben Olsen played down the injury:

I don't think it's the first time he's bled in a game. He is a tough guy and I think that he will shake it off, Olsen said.

He has been fantastic in every aspect, in every way that we want him to be with this group - with his leadership and goal-scoring ability. Hopefully, it can continue to get better.

Despite the result, DC United remain bottom of the Eastern Conference in MLS, with 17 points after 18 games.
