Wayne Rooney is the somewhat unusual guest on tonight's Monday Night Football. Joining Jamie Carragher for Chelsea's visit to Watford, such a role is usually the purview of job-seeking managers.
Having rejoined Everton after a lengthy spell with Manchester United during the summer, Rooney has settled at Everton better than many would have expected.
Although the extent to which the club have moved backward this season is equally surprising.
Only discussing the current state of affairs at Everton briefly, Rooney's insights into the situation at his old club were always going to be of greater interest.
With Alexis Sanchez becoming the latest in a long line of forwards currently available to Jose Mourinho at Manchester United, Rooney believes that the acquisition of the former Arsenal man is similar to a crucial signing Alex Ferguson carried out during United's late noughties hey-day:
For me he is the perfect player for Manchester United. He's got aggression, he's got passion, desire, and you can see he is a winner.
[Sanchez] is almost like [Carlos] Tevez when he joined Manchester United, a player that lifts other players and give them that extra 5 of 10%.
A high compliment indeed, Tevez's two seasons with United coincided with the club winning every available trophy bar the FA Cup.
If the Chilean were to have any such influence as the Argentine, United fans would surely be pleased with that.
