A little under a year after rejoining Everton from Manchester United, Wayne Rooney is set to leave Goodison Park with a year still left on his contract.
A rumoured move to MLS has been on the cards for a number of months and is now imminent. According to the Press Association, Rooney should complete a move to DC United today.
The Washington Post has details of the move.
It's said that Rooney has agreed on a two-and-a-half year contract with the club worth approximately $13 million. It will make him the highest-paid player in the club's history.
DC United will also pay an undisclosed fee to Everton for the 32-year-old.
The return of the final paperwork of the deal from Everton is now the only element to be finalised.
Rooney will travel to Washington today and soon begin training with his new club. He will join and be eligible to play in time for the opening of DC United's 20,000 capacity stadium, Audi Field.
DC United are four-time MLS winners. Though, their last title was 14 years ago.
