Wayne Rooney has named Celtic as the club he wished he played for, in a conversation with Gary Neville on The Overlap.
The YouTube channel released Wayne Rooney's 53 Quickfire Questions on Tuesday morning, and as always, the Manchester United legend was an engaging listen.
During the half-hour chat, he and Neville touched on a number of topics, including his managerial ambitions and an unlikely round of golf with Donald Trump. Rooney also named John Terry as his toughest opponent, and risked the wrath of United fans by stating that Steven Gerrard was a better all-round player than Paul Scholes.
The former Red Devils skipper recalled plenty of hijinks involving some former teammates such as Wes Brown, Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher and interim Ireland boss John O'Shea, all of whom he names as being among his best friends in football.
But it's the answer to one question that will leave Celtic fans wondering what could have been, as Neville asked Rooney what club he wish he had played for during his career.

Wayne Rooney names Celtic as the club he wished he played for
"Celtic, I'd say," Rooney responds without skipping a beat and Neville appears to be taken aback by the answer, looking towards the camera to say "Celtic fans, you missed out there."
It's not news to close watchers of Rooney that he is a big fan of the Hoops, as he as has indicated this on a few occasions in the past. In September of last year, he posted a picture of his son Cass in a Celtic jersey, and was flooded with replies from supporters of the Scottish champions airing their approval.
As a Man United player, Rooney thrived amidst the atmosphere generated on big Old Trafford occasions, and the thought of him lining out at Celtic Park on a massive Champions League night is a tantalising one. Even better, seeing him celebrating with fans after smashing one in an Old Firm clash against Rangers would have been a sight to behold.

Wayne Rooney's fondness for Celtic is no secret
Realistically, he would never have pulled on a Celtic kit in the prime of his career but he could have followed in the footsteps of the likes Roy Keane and lined out for the club as he reached his twilight years.
It's something we never got to see but if Rooney gets his managerial career back on track, starting with his new gig at Plymouth, perhaps we'll at least get to see him in the dugout at Celtic Park one day.
