Football bid farewell to two bona fide legends of the game at the Allianz Arena this afternoon, as Bayern lifted their fifth consecutive Bundesliga title.
Xabi Alonso bows out having accomplished it all; league titles in two countries, domestic cups in three, two Champions League medals, two European Championships and a World Cup.
Philipp Lahm ends his 15-year Bundesliga career with his ninth league medal, to go nicely alongside his six German Cups, a Champions League and a World Cup victory to name but a few of his other honours.
With Bayern leading Freiburg 2-1 in Munich, Carlo Ancelotti withdrew both men separately. Both left to rapturous receptions, with Lahm in particular - given his affinity to the club - sparking some emotional scenes during his final walk to the touchline.
First up, however, it was the Basque maestro, whose exit took the bones of a minute such was the acclaim with which Alonso was received by teammates young and old, as an applauding Franck Ribery stood smiling in wait.
And then went Lahm, an all-time club legend and a cultural icon in both Bavaria and beyond.
Having handed the armband to Thomas Muller, the long-reigning captain rode off into the sunset at a relatively sprightly 33, embracing Rafinha and Carlo Ancelotti at length. His reception was unsurprisingly thunderous.
Bayern went on to win the fixture 4-1, and thankfully, Alonso finished with an assist.
A sublime ball wide to Arjen Robben hardly created a guilt-edge opportunity for the Dutch wizard, but Robben rarely requires genuine chances in order to provide a finish.
After the game, all that was left for Bayern to do was celebrate their fifth Bundesliga title in a row, and their departing players - with popular backup 'keeper Tom Starke also exiting stage left after just seven appearances in five seasons at the club.
Starke had his moment with the Bundesliga trophy, but not before Lahm was able to savour his final moment in Bayern red. To his credit, he quickly sought Xabi Alonso to share the experience, briefly, before passing the trophy off to the rest of the Bayern squad.
