West Ham's Arthur Masuaku had been enjoying a resurgence under new boss David Moyes. However, the Hammers are currently in action against Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup and Masuaku has been sent off for an off the ball incident.
Masuaku was on the receiving end of a fairly robust challenge from Nick Powell. He responded by very clearly spitting on Powell and was immediately sent off for the act.
The red card will carry over to the Premier League which means Masuaku's recent run of form is set to endure a fairly prolonged break.
Speaking about the incident on BT Sport, Dean Saunders said he'd 'rather be punched in the face than spat at.'
It was an incredibly stupid thing for the 24-year-old to do, and it looks set to cost his side as they currently trail Wigan 2-0 thanks to a Will Griggs double.
