Manchester United needed a win when Feyenoord came to town in the Europa League on Thursday night, and while the team as a whole had a point to prove after losing the reverse fixture, there was one man who knew that all eyes would be on him.
Wayne Rooney has had to put up with an awful lot of shite being thrown at him over in the UK after he got drunk in the team hotel on international duty, but he's also had a number of people back him up, most notably Jurgen Klopp and Jamie Carragher.
But on Thursday he showed that he can still find the back of the net, and he did it in style with a delightful chip just shy of the 35th minute.
A fantastic finish, that sort of delicate touch has been sorely lacking in recent weeks. His touch also looked to be significantly better in his cameo sub appearance against Arsenal... Which suggests that he should let his hair down and neck a few pints more often.
When you think about how much better he was after the British press went to town on the video where Phil Bardsley knocked him out in his kitchen, a trend emerges that whenever Rooney is properly slammed by the red-tops, he finds his form soon after.
