Ah the all-time teammates XI.
What is it about former pros looking back on their career and picking a fictional team to represent the best practitioners of the beautiful game they ever played with that is so enjoyable?
It's probably the stories that accompany those selections, and sure enough when Tony Cascarino had a go we learned something new about Denis Irwin.
Speaking to Paul Merson and the bloke who did Soccer AM when it was crap for 'The Fantasy Football Show' on Sky Sports, Cascarino gave the right-back spot to Denis Irwin and then explained that his finishing was so good that it would embarrass the strikers in training.
I think probably the most underrated player I ever played with.
Left or right, free-kicks... He was a bit unfortunate he played with Beckham who took a lot of the free-kicks, he was good at them, Denis. You didn't want to do finishing [training] with Denis, he would embarrass the forwards, he was that good on either foot.
An exceptional player. Good lad.
You will have noticed he also got the Paul Merson 'top playa' of approval at the very end of that clip.
Here is Tony's teammate XI in full:
He elected to manage, and he would have a tough time keeping Yorke and Sheringham happy together up front!
If you are in the mood for some more Cascarino stories, which never disappoint, why not head down to Shelbourne Park on Good Friday as Balls.ie are hosting an evening with Tony Cascarino:
