Shamrock Rovers take to the European stage again on Thursday evening, as they face Djurgarden of Sweden on matchday one of the Europa Conference League.
Rovers were the first Irish side to break into the group stages of the Europa League back in the 2011-12 season.

In the Champions League, they beat Estonian side Flora Tallin 1-0 on aggregate before falling 3-0 to Copenhagen in the Third Qualifying Round.
The fallback for Shamrock Rovers was the playoff round of the Europa League. They stunned Partizan Belgrade, winning 3-2 on aggregate. They drew 1-1 at home. The first half of the second leg followed a traditional script. Belgrade led 1-0 at the break and Rovers looked set to go down honourably. However, Pat Sullivan's screamer out of the blue brought Rovers back into it.
An uncontroversial penalty awarded with nine minutes left in extra-time was converted by Stephen O'Donnell and Rovers were there.

In the group stage, they suffered against illustrious opponents. They failed to register a point in six games against Spurs, Rubin Kazan and PAOK.
However, there was one glorious moment of possibility early in the second half in their second game. Stephen Rice turned in a shot to give them a 1-0 lead at White Hart Lane. The sizable away crowd went wild.
Shamrock Rovers won't meet anyone quite of Tottenham's calibre in the Europa Conference League group stages but, if they can pull off the biggest Irish achievement in Europe yet and reach the knockout stages, they could meet the likes of West Ham or Villarreal.
