It's difficult to know how we are supposed to feel about Antoine Griezmann. Technically, he should be Toto Schillaci for this generation but it's unlikely he'll go down with any kind of notoriety (if that is the right word for the special cultural place Schillaci continues to hold in Ireland).
There'll be no 'Fuck Griezmann' shirts doing the rounds in the coming years. We were beaten by a better team and a lot of that had to do with the Atletico forward's ability to seemingly move through the Ireland defence without anyone realising he was there.
It was a deserved defeat owing to Griezmann's second half performance and there was little we could do about it. No moaning, no controversy, just au revoir. It helps that Griezmann is a rather likeable chap as well. Take for example, this footage that French Police yesterday released from after the game in Lyon.
The young man in the video is the son of Jean-Baptiste Salvaing, the policeman who was murdered alongside his partner, in their home in the north of Paris on June 13th. A horrific incident for any child to have live through and, although minimal in the grand scheme of things, it's a wonderful gesture from Griezmann.
