Rory McIlroy's procession to the Irish Open title is complete: the Irishman is about to clinch the title ahead of Russell Knox following this astonishing approach shot on 18, to leave him with a tap-in for eagle. Sadly, despite it being the defining moment of the entire competition, RTE managed to miss it, as they cut to an ad break as he played it. Here is the shot, along with some of the very unhappy reaction, as viewers were informed of the shot by their twitter feed:
253 yards.

@DDFIrishOpen final hole and @RTEsport misses the tee off for ads. Whatever happened to live tv for sports

Sound of @RTEsport to go to an Ad break for the 18th hole. Akin to ad break at FT at AI Final. What do I not pay my TV licence for #irishopen

Pretty unfortunate timing by the state broadcaster. McIlroy though. He has single-handedly revived the Irish Open, without him the tournament would be dying. This is a deserved reward for the guy. What a talent.
