In a match that has been dubbed the Fernando Morientes derby despite the fact that Steve McMananan, Michael Owen, and Jerzy Dudek all played for both clubs too and participated in the game, Liverpool Legends took on Real Madrid Legends at Anfield on Saturday evening to raise money for the LFC foundation.
And there were some serious legends on show:
#LFC Legends starting XI: Dudek, Kvarme, Carragher, Agger, Riise, Hamann, Gerrard, McManaman, Garcia, Fowler, Owen.#LFCRealLegends

The game finished 4-3 in favour of Liverpool, but it was not as close as the scoreline suggests. The hosts went 4-0 up thanks to goals from Michael Owen, John Aldridge, and Robbie Fowler, but it was largely down to the performance of Steven Gerrard, who looked very much like someone who played competitive football in the past year.
Gerrard claimed two assists before adding the fourth goal himself, and it was an absolute beauty. His first touch to control a cross into the box was incredible, and the volleyed finish delighted the Anfield faithful.
GERRARD!!! ⚽

That touch!
His overall performance inevitably saw the fans claim that he could still do a job for Jurgen Klopp's side:
Gerrard at his age would still be our best midfielder by a country mile, if he was still in the side! #LFC

So, what we've learnt from today is that a 36-year-old, Steven Gerrard, would still make it onto our bench. Class is permanent. Captain.

Rooney plays every week and is useless
We let #Gerrard go and he STILL plays out of this world
Makes you wonder eh— Dr. Goatee (@4dger) March 25, 2017
We need to clone Gerrard.

Please play for us again Gerrard. What a goal.

Steven Gerrard's crosses > any current #LFC player.

While it may be a bit much considering he played against a team of retired players in a charity match mentality, it's absolutely clear that he's still got a bit about him. As he should have, he hasn't even been retired a year.
A great performance from Gerrard that delighted the Liverpool fans on a day where the club raised money for a great cause. Top stuff all around.
