In perhaps the second most cruel twist of fate in his footballing career, Liverpool entered tonight's home Premier League clash with Chelsea winless since Steven Gerrard's return to the club in a coaching capacity.
While that record didn't quite change tonight, a spirited display by Jurgen Klopp's men ensured they didn't meet the miserable feat of having lost for consecutive home games for the first time in 94 years.
Instead, they clawed their way back into the game after a rather tame first half from the Liverpool perspective, a Giorgino Wijnadlum header cancelling out David Luiz's stunning first-half free-kick.
It was Liverpool's leveller which produced a wonderful moment from a Liverpool legend. Gerrard, who joined BT Sport's punditry team for the night that was, went ballistic as Anfield erupted. And not that he particularly needed to justify his actions, he did indeed clarify that he's a Liverpool fan when half-slagged by Jake Humphrey.
"Well I am a Liverpool fan" - Steven Gerrard certainly enjoyed Liverpool's equaliser. #LIVCHE https://t.co/8RARTqivYU

Intriguingly, you may have noticed that Rio Ferdinand opted against standing for Liverpool's equaliser, instead offering a respectful applause as Wijnaldum potentially salvaged their season, and indeed that of the four or five teams hanging onto Chelsea's coattails.
Michael Ballack's reaction remains a mystery, but one would presume it involved him trying to smile with his eyes and instead looking half-asleep.
Still, it's a lovely little clip for Liverpool fans' back catalogue, and - as if it could be called into doubt at this juncture - once more shows what the club means to Stevie G.
