Moldovan side Sheriff pulled off one of the greatest shocks in Champions League history on Tuesday night, as they sealed an historic win at the Bernabeu in their first ever away game in the competition.
The winner for Sheriff was the goal of the night - and an early contender for goal of the season.
Sheriff stun Real Madrid at the Bernabeu
Sheriff Tiraspol were playing in their first ever Champions League away game on Tuesday night - and facing 13-times champions Real Madrid at the Bernabeu was some way to kick their campaign off.
They confounded expectations, though, and incredibly took an early lead through Jasurbek Yahshiboev's neat header.

What followed was an unbelievable defensive effort from Sheriff but, after one claim for a Real penalty was ruled out by VAR, the Madridistas finally made their breakthrough. Vinicius Jr went down in the area once again, and Karim Benzema continued his fine form to slot home from the spot.
It always felt like there was another goal in the game, though, and Sheriff weren't done yet. Even a goal disallowed by VAR didn't dissuade them - and it's just as well, because their eventual winner was one of the best goals in recent memory in the Champions League.

Sebastian Thill, the coolest man in Madrid, saw the ball bounce to him on the edge of the area and sliced a perfect left-footed shot to the top corner to beat Thibaut Courtois and stun the home side.
For a club that are only 24 years old, Sheriff's achievement should give hope to all minnows across Europe. After all, it was only last year that they were knocked out of the Europa League qualifiers by our very own Dundalk.
We prefer not to speak.

We'd imagine Sebastien Thill won't ever have to buy himself a drink in Moldova (or Barcelona) again after his stunner handed Sheriff an instantly iconic win at the Bernabeu.
