Brendan Rodgers had warned that he was going to be playing the big names when Celtic rolled into Tallaght for a friendly on Saturday afternoon, and he was true to his word as the Glasgow club named essentially a full-strength lineup featuring the likes of Kieran Tierney, Scott Brown, Tom Rogic, and Moussa Dembele.
Shamrock Rovers, on the other hand, made 11 changes to the side that defeated Stjarnan to progress to the second qualifying round of the Europa League on Thursday night, giving a number of young players a chance to impress.
But it was all Celtic as the Scottish champions coasted to a 9-0 win, with Swedish defender Mikael Lustig the man to get the ball rolling on 10 minutes.
The floodgates were opened, and goals flew in with regularity over the next hour of play before Dubliner Jonny Hayes got what would have been a very special goal for him to make it 8-0.
