Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers contested their FAI Cup semi-final on Sunday afternoon knowing that Cork City were awaiting the winner as John Caulfield's men claimed a 1-0 victory over Limerick on Friday night.
With the league title looking very much out of reach for the Lillywhites, the importance of an FAI Cup win has increased significantly for Stephen Kenny and his players who would have been hoping for a bright start at Oriel Park, and they got one thanks to the ever-reliable Robbie Benson.
Actually, Benson was on hand to supply the finishing touches to what was an outstanding team move as Dundalk carved through their opposition after just 8 minutes for the game's opening goal.

Sublime stuff.
Had Patrick McEleney not already scored about seven goal of the season contenders already you'd have to say that would be right up there, but he has, so it may not get the love it deserves.
Shamrock Rovers, however, were not about to lie down and admire that goal as they hit back with a leveller in the second half to force a replay.
It's a replay. Brandon Miele's 76th-minute leveller means Dundalk & Rovers will do it all again Tuesday week #FAICup pic.twitter.com/MvsVKkyeZM
