Irish midfielder Richie Towell was in action today as Rotherham took on Scunthorpe United in the first leg of their League 1 play off semi-final. The Inchicore native played a big part in both of his side's goals as the Millers drew two all with Scunthorpe.
Towell contributed two assists on the day, the first was a lofted through ball to Jon Taylor, who finished with aplomb at the near post:
The second assist was slightly more fortuitous, the 26-year-old lining up for a Ronaldo-esque bicycle kick, only to skew his shot to Joe Newell who slotted home to give Rotherham a 2-1 lead.
But the spoils would eventually end up being shared after Scunthorpe levelled in the 88th minute after a goalmouth scramble.
Towell has scored six goals in 42 appearances since joining the Millers at the start of the season as Rotherham finished in fourth position in England's third tier. The return leg will take place next Wednesday in Rotherham's New York Stadium.
