Watch: Richie Sadlier Spoke Nothing But Sense While Explaining The Low Turnout Vs Oman

While everybody who tuned in to Ireland's friendly against middle eastern powerhouse Oman last night would have enjoyed the match, loved Robbie's goal, and been moved by the reception when the main man left the pitch (not to mention Paul McGrath getting some well-deserved love), there was a feeling that there should have been more people at the Aviva Stadium.

Some were upset with the turnout for Keano's goodbye, as almost the entire North Stand was vacant as well as clearly visible sections of the upper tiers, but that was nothing to do with the nation's feelings towards Robbie Keane, and more to do with a number of other factors.

Richie Sadlier was asked the question by Darragh Maloney on RTÉ's delayed coverage of the match, and he spoke nothing but sense. You cannot expect people to turn up and watch the likes of Oman on a work/school night.

I mean, look at them.

It sounds harsh, but it's totally correct.

Why are we playing Oman again? For the third time in recent memory?

The best reason I heard came from the stands last night as someone in the row behind me joked that we made so many 'Ireland vs Oman' half-and-half scarfs for the first game that didn't sell, we needed to arrange three more friendlies to shift them.

There's very little else, apart from the elephant in the room, so to expect the Aviva to be packed out was unrealistic.

Robbie got a great send-off, and he got a great goal. Just enjoy the night for what it was rather than worrying about the empty seats..
